GuavaPsidium guajavaGuava Usage Information In Terrariums: Wood is quite ornamental with its smooth bark. In Vivariums: Good wood ornament with smooth bark. It lends well to arid type landscapes and animals that cannot have sharp surfaces. Leaves are a great leaf litter. Used as a food for many arthropods. In Aquariums: Leaves are used extensively in aquariums for tannins and PH balancing. Shrimp and some fish readily feed on the leaves. We have not tested the wood for safety in water. General Appearance: The stems have a smooth light colored bark. The wood is quite heavy and hard, there may be potential for wood working. Leaves are somewhat similar in appearance to birch. Long Term: The wood will last quite a long time in tanks. The leaves do not last long in aquaria, often less than a month.
