Pigeon pea is an important legume crop in warmer regions. It is fantastic for areas that are drier and suffer from degraded soils. It is a fast growing bean type grown primarily for its seeds as a food or as a fodder for livestock.

Plants produce their first year and will start to decline over the years, thus growing them as an annual for food production is preferred. Pigeon pea is a light sensitive plant and will start flowering when hey days are close to 12/12.
