Clitoria ternatea - Butterfly Pea Seeds
Butterfly pea seeds are picked from mature seed pods and dried for storage. Seeds store well and should be kept cool, dark and dry until sowing. For best results, scarification is suggested. Scratching the seed coat or using the hot water technique work well. Soak until the seeds swell, if swelling does not occur in 2 days, try scratching the seed coat once more and repeat soaking.

Butterfly pea flowers are used in SE Asia to color drinks and sometimes foods. As a great natural blue to purple food colorant, this is now catching on worldwide as the new natural food coloring. Shades from pink, blue to purple are all achieved by this species.
